Initially, I had reservations about spending more money on the Top-Lids version, especially considering the availability of a cheaper alternative that could be “customized” through a do-it-yourself approach with the Red Sea kits or ones on Amazon 😂 . I decided to give the DIY option a try, but unfortunately, it didn't work out well for me (and yes I followed the directions, the netting was cheap and had to order extra parts due to the lack of quality in the outside rails and extra clips needed for a larger tank). However, I came across a positive review/video for Top-Lids, and despite my initial skepticism due to the promotional nature of selling videos in this day and age, I decided to inquire about purchasing it and then when I first called and Tyler answered, not a machine or calling service or hold for someone.
To my pleasant surprise, Tyler and Bruno promptly responded to my order and went the extra mile by arranging a personalized video call to discuss custom measurements for the light posts at the rear of my display tank. What impressed me even more was that they accommodated my schedule instead of sticking to regular office hours. They even did a custom engraving on the lid for me!
Despite the prevailing shipping delays that have become the norm from most companies, they managed to deliver my order swiftly like people would hope/expect. When the lid arrived, it fit perfectly, and the presence of feed holes on both sides made it even better. The custom cutouts for my lights made it incredibly convenient to remove the top whenever I needed to access the display tank for thorough cleaning or to add more coral (a special shoutout to Queen City Corals in Charlotte, NC for assisting me in spending the remainder of my budget 😂).
All things considered, I firmly believe that the Red Sea RS-525 G-2 lid by Top-Lids was worth every penny. The superior quality, coupled with the warranty they offer, justifies the additional cost. I'm truly glad that I took the plunge and made the purchase.
